The Disappearing Lake

Scott Lake is about 1 mile away from our house. After the 1st hurricane went through (Alberto) a lot of water was dumped on the lake causing the sludge on the bottom to be pushed into a cavity and cause a large hole that has eaten the lake and everything in it. Now the beautiful homes, on what used to be a bank, over look a huge sand pit with a few puddles and stinky dead fish. It has been one of the top stories in the Tampa Bay area news all week. Our neighbor was quoted in the paper today. It's a sad situation. If you want to read today's article go to: The Lake Is Dry.

Maybe they will change the name of the city from Lakeland to Stinkland.

Hopefully the lake will fill back up on its own. Kind of ironic they used well water to fill the lake and now all that water went back down into the ground.

Of course if all the lakes disappeared, they would have to change the name to just "Land".

They can't change it to "Land" because that's trademarked. They could change it to "Lake's End."

I like Nolakeland for the new name. Or maybe, Lakeless.

This is NOT funny. I sure hope somebody can find a way to fix Scott Lake.

There was an article in the Ledger yesterday about Dave Curry and his wife, Edris and Scott Lake. We stayed in their house in Anna Maria a few summers ago. It was the blue duplex with 3 bedrooms upstairs and 3 downstairs. Grant didn't go. http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060625/NEWS/606250370&SearchID=73248824106687
