Estonians in the News

From an article about the recent OfficeMax security breach…

Oakland resident Alicia Vagts, 34, illustrates this possibility. She discovered in October that someone in Estonia was running up about $2,500 in fraudulent charges on her Washington Mutual debit card.

"I barely knew where Estonia was," she said. (It's on the Baltic Sea, right next to Russia.)

  1. I read an article recently that said Estonia is one of the most internet savvy countries in Europe. Skype is an Estonian invention for free long distance over the internet. E-stonia!

  2. I was helping my co-worker, Jenny, again with her computer which has been having incredibly slow modem speeds lately. I don’t know if it had anything to do with it, but she had been infected with some kind of malware that added a menu to certain programs (I first noticed it in Control Panels where I saw menus for Gambling, Internet, Pharmacy, Finance, Insurance, Adult; those aren’t usual Microsoft menus). Anyway, it included a Remove button and when you clicked it, it took you to thequicklink dot com. I did a WHOIS on this and it is an Estonian registry (but no one I knew).
