Three Ladies

by Ted
I took the dogs over to Jeb’s yesterday. I had recently come across a picture of Katie with Kelly and Claire when I had first gotten her. The picture was taken on Easter in 2000. It’s a pretty cute picture:

So, since everyone was around, Fiona took a picture of the same cast of characters 12 years later:

Thanks to my nice nieces for indulging me!

Big Snowman

I think this is the biggest snowman I’ve ever helped build. Claire did most of the work by making the bottom snow boulder. It took Kathy, Claire, and I to get the second snow boulder on top of the first. (Alas, Danny was in Athens.) We had to reinforce the bottom and mid joints to keep the boulders from rolling.

You can see where all of the 3″ of snow would be lifted off the grass as Claire rolled the ball around. Thanks for getting us out to play in the snow Claire!

Turning Green in Winter

As the economy started coming back, some of our stocks started to turn green in the Fall. Most of our savings are in stock indexes, though. We have three Vanguard stock index funds recommended by Clark Howard. While only one of them has turned green, it turned green enough to make the entire portfolio green today. So…. back to where we started.

Brick Store for Lunch

I picked up mom (Gramalie) at Ted’s house yesterday where she was helping watch over the installation of new windows. They were just finishing up, and Ted now has a very nice view from all sides of his house.

We went to Decatur to the Brick Store Pub, a favorite of mine. They were packed for lunch, so we could not get a booth or table, but we did get a big barrel table with stools. Mom chose a square stool, and I chose a round one.

I thought this would be a good place to go on a cold, rainy day, and it was. We had great service, sandwiches, soup, and coffee. Mom recommends the hot grilled corn beef sandwich. I recommend their signature “almost famous” brunswick stew. Spicy. Coffee is a recommend, also.

Later we walked Katie and Austin who were so happy to be walking with Gramalie and a bit concerned to be walking with the un-Ted. Really, only Austin was concerned. Katie did not care.

Ted should not let his dogs walk his fearless mother, especially on wet, leafy sidewalks. Katie had mom going in a trot, and I was very concerned she would fall. I ended up taking both leashes for the first leg, and then as the dogs settled, Mom was able to take a leash for the second leg.

Stout would be safer for mom.

Turning Green in Fall

Most of our savings are in our 401K and stock index funds. But we have some individual stocks that have been “in the red” most of the year. We have these mainly because Kathy wanted to own Google and Apple. Well, turns out she knows how to pick them. With Google turning green for us, last Friday was the first time I had seen two greens this year. Kathy quickly corrected me… “that happened Thursday.”

Note: The Sirius/XM was my idea. Ugh.

“401K” by Kathy

I’m changing offices at work, and as the head of marketing certain members of my staff believe my new office needs to be colorful and creative. Kathy gave me a colorful painting she did that I call “401K”. I framed it this weekend and plan on giving it a prominent location in the new office.

401K

I’ve also added it to the growing number of paintings in the gallery.

Danny recommended I put in a twister area rug. I’ll have to run that by the staff.

DC’s Birthday Quotes

teds-montana-grill-logo.jpgJust pulled a receipt out of my pocket with quotes written on the back:

Ted’s Montana Grill

16oz Sweetwater 420 (2 @ 4.25)

“I’ve never put a razor to my face.” – MCC

“This tastes like a dirty hippy.” — DC

“Some beer dripped in my water.” – MCC

“Nice. I won’t tell anybody.” — The waiter

(Note: Dirty Hippy = a variation of a black & tan. Guinness and something else. Maybe DC remembers.)
