Fifth’s Disease

Alice called to warn that she I may have been exposed to Fifth’s Disease which would be bad for me to expose to Kathy. She was in a calm panic because she had been diagnosed with it and was contacting everyone she may have passed it on to.

I would have gotten it from Bennett at guy’s night out last weekend. After many phone calls and much controversy, Kathy, Nancy, Ted, and I have decided not to worry about ourselves.

I feel for Alice who has been threatened with fetal blood transfusions. The malicious doctors threatened Danny with such things in his second week.

Round Glasses

Kathy put in her last night at SportsLife. I don’t know if selling Melaleuca will ever make us a dime, but at least she can’t catch tuberculosis from Gold Bar Soap.

After wearing the same frames for 7+ years, I got new glasses.

jc-glasses-1992-04.gifI’ve gone from the aviator glasses (which I was told dated me to the early eighties) to a more contemporary round look.

They weigh less, cost a lot more, and my prescription hasn’t even changed. Fortunately we have eye insurance at work.

Upon Dextral’s advice, I got my old glasses tinted for $35.

Pretty good for some eighties sun glasses.

Spotty Vision

An annoying thing happened on Friday the 13th.

I went up to Commerce in the morning to visit with Resource One about a business partnership. I had half a cup of coffee with Coffee-Mate. Stopped by home on the way back to have lunch with Danny and Kathy. I fixed Danny and myself some sandwhiches. One of mine was peanut butter and orange marmalade.

About 1:30 at work, I sat down to do some work on the computer, and I realized I coudn’t see the screen very well. It was like I had stared at a lightbulb, so anything directly in front of me was spotty. I tried blinking my eyes and shutting them. I could almost make out the bright light with my eyes closed.

Sid came in to talk about a project. I told him I couldn’t see very well, but that I could talk to him. Then Eric came in to ask about an invoice. I had to scan it a couple of times to make out what it was. Only parts of the invoice were in focus.

After about 10 minutes, it cleared up. Then I noticed that I didn’t feel very well. I had a slight headache and felt a bit woozy. Jerone told me to go on home. I got progressively better, though, and didn’t leave any earlier than normal.

My first thought was I had stared at a computer screen wrong. Then I thought I might have been poisoned. Bad coffee-mate and orange marmalade are the leading suspects. Then I thought that it might be some kind of virus.

The only other thing I know of that messes with your optic nerves is a tumor. Would it affect both eyes?

[Update: Probable ocular migraine.]

Bravery Has Limits

Danny got a shot today. The whole ordeal was terribly serious, but he didn’t cry a bit as he watched the nurse stick a needle in his arm.

He had a fit, however, during the examination afterward. Didn’t like the idea of stripping down to his underwear.

Night Adventures

12:00 AM It’s late at night. Kathy is reading Lord Jim. The weather has been rainy and cool for the past several days, but it started to warm up today. Pretty humid.

Danny came whimpering into our room in the middle of the night. I couldn’t get him to explain what was wrong. He said his nose hurt. He blew his nose and said that was better. I walked him back to his bed. He started crying a little bit later. Kathy went in to check on him. He said his bed was wet. She started to help change him. She then discovered that the poor little guy had thrown up. We spent the next hour trying to take care of him and get him comfortable, but he had to throw up two more times.

It’s hard on the nerves to watch a little kid have the dry heaves.

He was fine for the rest of the night. I heard him telling Nicole all about his middle of the night adventures as they were getting dressed. I went in to talk to him about it and ask how he felt. He was fine and said he was hungry. Then a look of worry crossed his face, and I knew I had only seconds to get him into the bathroom. He made it. That was the last time he threw up. By the end of the day, he seemed back to normal.

I think this vegetarian diet is starting to catch up with us. Danny’s little body is revolting against something as unnatural as an all-vegetable diet. (Unnatural to a little boy, anyway.)

FOPAB got put to bed. We’ve added a new twist with a scanned photo of Bob and Kay. Mom and Dad created a tour d’ force in crossword puzzles, putting together over 80 FOPAB cities.

Pollen Coughing

It was good to get back to work and relax after the exhausting weekend. Kathy and I stayed up late last night, just to make it that much more tiring.

Danny has his bad “allergy-based” cough at night. Sounds terrible, but the doctor, once again, says that he has no disease. Just sinuses. Sounds like his lungs are congested, but the doctor denies it.

Even Nicole, Kathy, and I are being affected by the record-high pollen counts this year.
