Satisfaction

Mom surprised us Friday by volunteering to watch the kids. Kathy and I went for some TCBY yogurt and a movie, “Backdraft.” We both thought the movie was very good. Kathy ran into Tommy and Daryl (?) at the concession stand, so they sat with us.

Mom has turned in her resignation at Master Graphics. Just can’t handle the rough environment. I hope she finds a nicer place to work. More professional.

The other night, I brought home a questionnaire for Kathy to complete. She pulled it out after dinner and read the title “HMO Customer Satisfaction Survey.” Danny replied, between bites, “Can’t get no.” We all cracked up.

Calcacieu Marine

Went to Lake Charles, Lousiana, Monday and Tuesday with Denise Hall from the Training Department. She is afraid of small commuter planes, so we had a one hour flight to Baton Rouge and a 2 1/2 hour drive to Lake Charles.

Met Doug Mayhall and Tommy DeBlieux (say W). Tommy knows how to ride a unicycle. We called on Calcacieu Marine Bank, an impressive building in the middle of a depressed town.

Super Freaks

Kathy’s 10 year class reunion made for a fun but exhausting weekend. The kids stayed and Grandpa’s Friday night (a first!) while Kathy and I went to County Cork. Kathy thought it was strange going to a crowded bar where you know everyone. We actually gathered in the courtyard below County Cork, only going into the bar upstairs for popcorn or bathroom breaks.

I was the only guy there who had a wife and sister in the graduating class. Bob couldn’t make it because his parents were down for a visit.

Kathy and I stayed right up to the end. Then we left with Nancy and Ted and Cam and her boyfriend, John. We all decided to meet over at our pool for a late night jacuzzi dip and swim. Out in the parking lot, Kathy, Nancy, Ted, and I hung around a few minutes trying to figure out what was going on inside a nearby Issuzu Trooper.

I think we finally stumbled into bed around 3 a.m.

Saturday, we picked up the kids and went to a tour and picnic at St. Pius. Danny brought his scooter which he road around in the parking lot. Nicole scored at least 5 baskets inside the gym with her amazing underhand toss.

Kathy was amazed at the new additions to the school, especially the bigger library, the dance studio, the band room, and the very nice theater. Not as many people turned up for the picnic as the night events.

We all dressed up for a night of dancing and yelling (over the loud music) at CAMMERRON at the Shops of Dunwoody. Kathy and I led the dancing with several of the black girls who couldn’t resist getting us all up on the dance floor when “Super Freak” started playing. Kathy had a great time and was the best looking girl there. At one point a bunch of us were up on a row of chairs on the dance floor with the manager encouraging us to get off her chairs.

Sunday was much more relaxing. The four of us joined the Regan’s up at the farm for a day of just sitting around a recuperating. Ted and I went shopping at the Levi’s outlet in Gainesville.

These are the results and recommendations for the soil sample you submitted for your fescue lawn. The laboratory results show that the PH is 5.3, the phosphorus level is 14 (low), the potassium level is 176 (medium), the calcium level is 752 (adequate), and the magnesium level is 120 (medium).

The soil test results indicate that the PH of your soil is low and lime should be applied, therefore, broadcast or spread 25 lbs. of agricultural limestone per 1000 square feet.

Based upon the results the following fertilizer treatments are suggested:

For establishment, incorporate 25 lbs. of 5-10-15 per 1000 square feet into the top 4-6 inches of soil prior to seeding. In November and February apply 3 lbs of ammonium nitrate (34-0-0) per 1000 square feet. Follow this fertilization program for the first year only, then use the maintenance recommendation for the next 2-3 years. Retest 2-3 years after establishment.

For maintenance, apply 10 lbs. of 10-10-10 per 1000 square feet in September and November. In February, apply 4 lbs. of ammonium nitrate (34-0-0) per 1000 squre feet. In May, apply 1 1/2 lbs. of ammonium nitrate (34-0-0) per 1000 square feet.

Clippings do not contribute to thatch under proper management and thus, do not need to be removed. If they are removed, increase the fertilizer application rate by 30%.

Caution: Water lawn thoroughly immediately after applying fertilizer. Do not apply a fertilizer when grass is wet.

If you should have any questions, contact the county extension office.

Macworld 1991

Jeb_in_Boston.pngI went to the MacWorld Expo for 3 days in Boston. It was like going to the greatest mall on earth (for me.) Bar Lightsey and Bobby “One Floor” Bell went with myself and John Watson from R&D.

We got to see Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn filming a movie at midnight on the way back to the car from Faniel Hall. The movie will be called House Sitter. As everyone stood around waiting for the next shot, Steve pulled out his portable bike and went for a couple turns around the block. As he drove by, we stood watching. John waved. Steve waved back and said, and I quote, “Bored yet?”

We all laughed. Hope the rest of the movie is that funny.

On our last night in Boston, we walked forever following the red line of freedom. Ended up at the Bull & Finch, the inspiration for Cheers. John and Bobby were very excited and called home to tell their wives where they were. Bar called voice mail.

The kids enjoyed all the buttons and paraphernalia that I brought home. Kathy took them on all kinds of adventures since I was out of town. They went to the lake and to the botanical gardens. I don’t know why they don’t do things like that when I’m here.

Leaf-Tah

On the way to the store with Nicole and Kathy, Danny started thinking.

He asked Kathy why he was born last. Kathy explained that God thought that Nicole would be a better big sister, and he would be a better little brother.

Danny then said that he didn’t like God. Nicole gasped. (She has two years of Sunday school and Danny has none.) Kathy told Danny that she liked and loved God, and that she thanked God every day that he had given her a little boy. And that God had decided to give Dad and Mom a nice little boy, and that was him.

Then Danny asked if God gave him his name. Kathy said no, that God let Dad and Mom pick out his name.

“I don’t like to be called Danny,” he declared.

“Well what do you want to be called?” Kathy asked.

“I want to be called Leaf-Tah-Terrace.”

Nicole cracked up. Kathy was amused, but told Nicole to stop laughing. It was important to take Danny’s thoughts seriously.

So… we lost our good little boy today, and now we have a little atheist named Leaf-Tah-Terrace. (I hope he doesn’t start worshiping crystals.) How am I going to explain this to Leaf-Tah’s grandparents?

Happy 4th Birthday Danny!

J: What did you do on your birthday?

D: I blowed out candles. And I was four. I opened presents. And I eat a cupcake. I got an airplane with a gun, and you shoot it with water.

J: Who gave you that?

D:Uncle Ted. Uncle Grant gave me the thing for the three balls with a gun. Knock down something.

J: Where did you go on your birthday?

D: Go play putt putt. I got a hole in one. And Nicole got a hole in one. (J: She got two.) We got tickets.

J: Who took you to play putt putt?

D: Gramalie and GrandDad. And I got a scooter on my birthday and a lego maniacs. I think that’s it.

N: He got two Marble Works from Gramalie and Patsy.

D: Yeah. Aunt Carol gave me Candy Land and Shoots and Ladders. I don’t know who gave me the paint. Nicole gave me the Ninja Turtle cards. And I got paint on my birthday. I think that’s it.

J: Danny, what do you want to be when you grow up?

D: An Indian.

J: Is that because you were an Indian at kaleidoscope?

D: Yep.

Pool Party Birthday

It was a long, hard weekend. The birthday that would never end. Kathy up early Saturday morning to go to work, only to arrive and find she had not been scheduled to work that day as she had requested. She came home muttering something about how much she can’t stand Helga (the scheduler.)

We took the kids to see “Wild Hearts Never Die.” A nice (true) story about a girl, her horse, and a tower that she and the horse jumped off.

Ted stopped by to help me get the keg for the party on Sunday. He stayed for BBQ Chicken. We watched Eric for Bob and Carol. Eric was pretty good. Danny made him a little bed out of his Sesame Street sleeping bag and Eric’s baby blankets. Though he missed his mom rocking him to sleep, he gave in and fell asleep soon enough.

Sunday morning, Danny and I took on Nicole in a round of Labyrinth. Fun game. One of Carol’s “Discovery” toys. I like the cartoon drawings. Nicole didn’t think it was fair that we won since it was two against one. I asked her if she wanted to have Danny on her team next time. She said no.

The cookout/pool party was fun. In attendance were Ted, Nancy, Shawn, and Brittainy – making her walking debut; Carol, Bob, and Eric; Shelly, Ken, and Alison ; Mom, Dad, Grant & Ted; Jeannie and John – and later Lauren – just in from California; Frank and Stephanie; and Harrison who is a bachelor for the week.

The Weber grill never worked so hard, cooking hundreds of hamburgers and hotdogs. Later we all went down for a long afternoon at the pool. Danny taught himself to do a flip when he saw Frank and Ken doing all of their usual spins. Frank and Ken are happiest when spinning in mid air. Mom came down. Dad stayed at the house and watched the braves game, which was a shame, since Frank brought the keg down to the pool in his truck.

Frank, Stephanie, and Harrison stayed into the night. We ordered pizza. Harrison lost his shoes and a shirt. Frank left his sandals and sun glasses here. Mom left her camera.

I suppose they are de facto birthday gifts.
