“Cash” Has Good First Outing

Kathy took Danny up for his first game last night. I carpooled the girls to Sunday school (on Wednesday night) and watched the war. None of us knew he was going to play, but after a terrible third and fourth inning of walks and mistakes by three of the pitchers, the coach called in “Cash.”

He inherited one man out, two strikes, and one man on base. Over the next two innings, he quickly delivered two strike outs, two pick offs, and one fantastic relay at first, and the game was over! Danny says it was the most fun he had in two innings in all of high school. Good thing, because all of the varsity coaches were in attendance.

Zero earned run average!

March 26th vs. Northview

In a game that was to be loaded with walks, Ryan Bode started off the first inning in fine fashion shutting down the Titans offense. In the bottom of the inning, the Broncos didn’t wait long to get things going as TJ Pilla started off the game with a single and a quick stolen base. After a couple of walks, Chris Murray would drive home the first run with a groundout to the infield. Ross Walker followed with an RBI on an infield hit. The Titans gave us one run with a Balk and Matt Covington would get the fourth run of the inning home with a grounder to third.

With a tight strike zone, Ryan Bode was able to get out of a two walk inning by striking out three batters to retire the side. The Broncos came back up in the second inning and scored three more runs on an RBI single by Matt Dauphinee, a sacrifice fly by Chris Murray and a RBI grounder by Ross Walker.

The third inning would see the Titans score five runs without getting one hit. After loading the bases, a pickoff attempt at third base by the Broncos sailed down the left field line and all three runners scored on the play. After a dropped ball and two more walks, the Titans were right back with the bases loaded. Pick off attempt number two at third base also sails down the left field line as two more runners score before the third runner is caught going to third.

In the bottom of the third, Kevin Cordell gets a hit, steals second and is moved over to third. TJ Pilla gets him home with a sac fly to make it an 8 – 5 Bronco lead.

In the fourth inning, after two walks and two wild pitches allow the Titans to score two more runs, Danny Cashel is brought in and gets three quick outs. That will be the last time the Titans will score.

The bottom of the fourth inning would see the Broncos put the game out of reach with nine runs crossing the plate. Here are the highlights of the inning: Ross Walker – double, Josh Erisman – single, Matt Covington – triple (2 RBIs), TJ Pilla – single (RBI) and steals home, Josh Erisman – single (2 RBIs). When the inning finally came to a close, the Broncos were now up 17 – 7.

Danny Cashel made sure the walk – a – thon was over as he shut down the Titans in the fifth and the game was called on the mercy rule.
