Rubik’s Cube Trouble

For Christmas this year I wished for only the 3 things.

– A rubik’s cube

– A letter jacket

– A snuggie

Yes! I got all three.

Ever since Christmas I have been trying to solve the rubik’s cube and have had a lot of trouble with trying to solve it. It seems easy at first to get 6 squares to match up on one side with the same color. However, there is more to it than twist and turns.

I have searched ways to solve the rubiks cube. Some people can solve it in 45 seconds! It means that there is a pattern to follow. But, that is way beyond my level. I found that for beginners you want to make a cross + of the colors on one side and make sure 2 colors match up on other sides. That may sound confusing with my explanation. I will have a link that will show a visual of what I am trying to explain.

Sometimes I follow that trick. Other times I just go off on my own thing. I just try to make 3 squares with the same color align. But, you have to check the other sides to make sure the color(s) on the other side of each individual square matches up with the middle square. The middle square never moves, which makes it easier to know which color goes to what side.

I asked Uncle Ted and Dad if they have ever solved a rubiks cube, nope.

So, I ask to those who are reading… have you ever solved a rubiks cube?

Any helpful hints to a beginner?

  1. Wikipedia says that computer research has said that any Rubik’s cube combination can be solved in 22 moves or less. There isn’t any one particular way of solving it, but there are strategies you can use and also certain series of moves that can be used over and over. I never learned any of that stuff. I’m not even good at those sliding tile puzzles. Uncle Grant is usually pretty good at that kind of thing.

  2. No, I never unlocked the mysteries of solving a Rubik’s cube – I remember seeing a guy on TV solving one supa fast while blind-folded. I couldn’t get more than 2 sides.

Has anyone ever actually SEEN someone solve a Rubik’s cube in PERSON? Maybe it’s all a farce – like men landing on the moon 50 years ago.

  3. I saw a video one time of a robot or machine that could solve it. But then someone pointed out that the video was running backwards and the robot had been given one that was solved and it was just turning the sides and making it more scrambled. Maybe people who claim to solve them are doing something similar.
