Margie, Douglas, Annie, Rueben, & Claire

Margie Cashin, our godchild, came to visit us on Monday afternoon with her family. They live in New Zealand. Annie is 10, Rueben is 7 and Claire is 4. Their school year is from January 1 through December 31 so they are all in new grades as of Jan. 1st. They are in the states for 4 weeks and are staying with good friends on Dartmouth in Avondale Estates. We had a wonderful visit with them. The children are just precious and I wish they could know our grands. They enjoyed all of the toys in the closet, basement, and garage. I took some pictures of them and would like to add one to this article, but I don’t know how.

Easter

We will miss the Ettensohns this year for our family get-together. Grant, Jami, Fiona and Michael will be here about 11 a.m. and I’m saving some hard boiled eggs for Fiona to dye. Jeb’s family will be here about 2:30. I don’t know about Ted, but hopefully he’ll come on over as soon as he gets all of the dogs and cats taken care of. Susan is in Nashville, so Ted has all the dogs at his house.

I read in my “Little Black Book” that the Irish traditionally have corned beef for Easter, so that’s what we are going to have, although there are some of us who aren’t Irish. We all like corned beef. Granddaddy will stuff the plastic eggs with money and candy, and we’ll just see if Mary Claire finds the silver dollar again this year. I think she has for 4 years straight!

Happy Easter to all of you.

Condo

Just 2 more days and we’ll be home on Monday. Hate to leave this beautiful weather and place. We’ve had a good month, seeing Joe and Sandra, Betty and Elise, and lots of Patsy and Carol’s gang. We made an offer on a condo here and it has been accepted so we will be back down to close Feb. 28th. It’s 2 BR and 2 Baths, but small and right on the golf course. A beautiful view. I have picked out all of the furniture from John Grieger’s store and it’s lovely. Have ordered 3 Lazy Boy Recliners. Dan thinks we may own more Lazy Boys than anybody in the world. Two will go in the LR and one in the Master BR. As you can imagine, this has taken a lot of my time, but have managed to walk 2 to 3 miles a day with Carol and sometimes Dan and played tennis 3 times.

Dan has played golf countless times. His brother, Bob, and brother-in -law, Jack, came down Monday and left yesterday. They got in 3 great days of golf, each at a different course. They played with Patsy at her 4 1/2 * country club golf course on Thursday and raved and raved. They love Patsy. Have even invited her to be a sub on their annual golf weekend trip in March to Hickory Knob, SC. Now, she is the first woman to ever be invited, but she can only go if someone dies or gets very sick at the last minute. Either situation is possible. She thinks they are so fun and funny, and will probably go.

Carol & Bob had us all over to a wonderful bar-b-q dinner Thursday night and we sat out by their pool after dinner. Patsy took us all to the country club for dinner Wednesday night. I think Bob and Jack will probably want to come back. They sure were entertained royally.

Hope everybody is well and staying warm up there.

God bless.

Love,

Mom, Julie

Internet CD

(Mom was concerned about borrowing Bob’s account. Not sure why she didn’t sign her name.)

I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner, but I just went to Wall Mart and got an internet CD and I get 700 free hours for 30 days. I can cancel anytime. Cool.

Have Laptop Will Travel

Jeb has been so kind to loan us a laptop for our stay in Florida. He even loaded up w.bloggar on the laptop to make it easier to record blog entries on Tucker. In fact, he is so kind, he is even going to the trouble to type this message in w.bloggar to see if it works. A fine fine son he is.

He is hoping our fine, fine son-in-law Bob will provide us an ethernet connection.

Fiona, Kelly & Claire

We met Jami, Michael, and Fiona on Tuesday morning in Bethlehem, GA and transferred Fiona to my car to come spend 2 nights with Gramalie & Grandaddy. She was very excited! We drove down to the heart of Bethlehem to see if we could see something special – but nothing but a little post office where people come from far and wide to mail their Christmas cards! Fiona and I stopped by Publix before we got home to pick up a few things (I don’t know how you mom’s handle all this carseat stuff all the time). We came home, ate lunch with grandaddy, and we played the rest of the afternoon, went to the park, and took a long walk (with her in the stroller which also has to be buckled in like a carseat). We had supper and she wanted a bubble bath, then she asked to sleep in the crib. Of course, she could sleep anywhere she wanted to, so that was fine with us. She was in bed by 8:15 and slept til 7:00 a.m.

We had breakfast, got dressed and went to pick up Kelly and Claire. We all went to the Mall of Georgia which is huge! Fiona was in (and out) of the stroller (having to be buckled in and out). We ate lunch at some Pretzel place and just had cinnamon-sugar pretzels and soft drinks. Well, I had a pretzel wrapped hot dog, but the girls didn’t want one of those. Our main purpose to go to the mall was for Kelly and Claire to shop for their family presents. We were mostly successful with shopping in Claire’s (the store named after Mary Claire) and the candy store. They were all very good and Claire and Kelly were a huge help with pushing and buckling in and out Fiona.

We were home by 4:30, and had healthy snacks of apples, bananas, peanut butter, cheese, and milk since we had such a terrible lunch. We were all pretty tired, so the girls watched The Little Mermaid. Fiona was a little bit scared. After the movie, we had spaghetti and yogurt, and about 8:00 p.m. the girls voluntarily went upstairs and got dressed for bed. Fiona wanted to sleep in the crib again and Kelly and Claire slept in the twin beds in the same room. Fiona said they were going to talk and talk all night. So lights went out and they started talking, and before long Fiona went to sleep. Claire and Kelly sneaked out and came back downstairs and Grandaddy, the girls and I played Mexican Train for a long time. Lights were really out and everybody in bed by 11:15.

Fiona slept until 7:38 and, of course, we all had to get up when she woke up. The girls and grandaddy all piled in bed with me. It reminded me of that song years ago on Captain Kangaroo about the little dogs that went to bed and “they all rolled over and one fell out”. We had pancakes for breakfast, and the girls all got dressed on their own, then we had arts and crafts. They colored in the comics in the newspaper with colored pencils, and they looked like Sunday comic when they finished. They used dots to decorate and Claire made her own cartoon strip with “dot people”. They also played hide-and-seek.

We piled in the car about 12:30 to go meet Grant in Between, GA to return Fiona. Then, Grandaddy, Claire, Kelly and I stopped at Wendy’s and had lunch, and we had them back to their house by 3:30. It was a fun couple of nights to be with the girls. They are all so precious and good. I think they had a good time. We sure did.

Gramalie

Chili Party

We had our 3rd annual Cashin Chili Party today and those who attended were Jeb, Kathy, Nicole, Danny, Kelly, Claire, Ted, Susan, Grant, Jami, Fiona, Michael, Anthony, Ashley, Robert, James, Ed, and John. It was good for cousins to get together and Dad and I really enjoyed all of the young people. Everybody brought cookies to exchange and I am impressed that the 3 single guys – John, Ed, and Ted all made cookies (Susan helped Ted). They were all delicious.

The chili was great, if a little spicy, and everything else worked out well except the Hot Apple Cider. I poured 1/2 gallon into the Christmas teapot that Carol gave me a few years back, added 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 tsp. whole allspice, 1 tsp. whole cloves, and 2 cinnamon sticks. It made the house smell nice. Not very much was consumed, however, and when I tasted it, I thought it was awful. When I checked the laundry room refrig after everybody left, I found that I had actually used 1/2 gallon of sweetened ice tea instead of the apple cider. So, I still have a gallon of apple cider. Anyone want to come over and start all over again?

Subject: Re: ROMA!

Thanks for the post. I would love to get more

involved in the blog. I went to Florence today with

27 other folks and Dad stayed here and went to see the

Pope at noon come out of his balacony window and bless

everybody. He loved it. There were 11 who went to

Assisi on the train. Such fun to be here. Patsy and

MS and Phyllis seem to be enjoying it. What can I

bring you back from Roma_

——————-

Mom,

The Pope fell out of the church key you gave me some years ago. (It looked like a round gold coin inside a silver circular bottle opener.) So a new church key from Rome would be good. Maybe one that really feels solid. Turns out the Pope part was hollow.

Glad Dad got to see the Pope. The temperature was probably a lot better than when I saw him in July. People were passing out because of the heat.
