Jury Duty

I am a proud American. I was selected to be a jury member for a trial that will be held this Wednesday. I am not at liberty to discuss details at this time.

I reported to the Polk County Courthouse in Bartow this morning. I had to wait in a long security line of other possible jurors. The beeper went off when I went through. They had to give me the stick treatment, but never found out why I beeped. I went through to the lobby where they were having a bake sale. Luckily I brought a drink and lunch. We had to go to the 2nd floor and meet in a large room. After a lot of instructions, and a brief video, we had a break.

After the break, a woman read off our jury numbers and assigned us to judges and courtrooms. This took a very long time since some people had the same number as other people (they thought) and some people didn’t hear their number, and some people had issues.

My herd was ushered out into the hall and counted. One guy was in the wrong herd. We were told to go to the 8th floor. Four of us decided to take the stairs, so instead of starting to exercise tomorrow, I started today. That wiped me out. Luckily I had my drink. The water there tastes like sulpher.

After getting to the 8th floor and taking a quick R.R. break, we went to the courtroom where the judge was already speaking. Within minutes I was told to sit in the jury box. There were 12 of us out of about 50.

Both Attorneys asked us several questions. That was when I found out that some of the people I was with forgot to start up their thinkers today. They were so confused by the questions, or maybe they didn’t know where they were. It bothered me to think that they drive on the same roads as thinking people use.

So it ended up that they picked 6 out of those 12 and had to interview 6 more to get another person. So 7 of us will go back Wednesday.

Cassie’s Kidneys

Poor old Cassie isn’t doing so well. She’s been having lots of accidents in the house. She had some blood in her urine, so I took her to the vet today. I left with 4 different medications for her. The doctor said she has an infection, but her kidneys are not in good shape. She is 98 in people years.

Eric took the ACT test today. We will get the results in 4-6 weeks.

Pedicures

Today I went to Wal-Mart for a pedicure. This was neighbor, Jill’s idea. We are going to a gala fund-raiser event tonight.

The young man who gave me the pedicure was blind in one eye. He was a nice looking guy except that one eye was all white with some blue veins. He had a good sense of humor. He told me that I would live a long life because I have long toes. He didn’t think I had a lot of dry skin on my feet because he used this razor tool to try to scrape my heel. He said some people have a lot of dead skin. I asked if they recycled that. He thought that was a strange idea. I told him I would probably see him on TV in 5 years selling dog bones made from people’s heel skin.

Ted Was Born 38 Years Ago

Ted likes, Strawberry Cake, Tang, and Russian Tea, Little Furry Gremlin dolls, and playing Hide and Seek.

Ted liked growing things like Cucumbers and Sunflowers. He watched Star Trek, Hogan’s Heros, and Mash for lots of hours.

Ted is silly, and he’s fun and always pretty cute. He tried to play piano, but never touched a flute.

Ted loves movies, playing games, and really likes to read. Like his Dad he always has a trick up in his sleeve.

You can’t help loving Ted, he’s my little brutha, one of the good guys that Ted he is, I wouldn’t want anotha.

Birds of a feather…

The birds are flying south for the winter.

In all of my almost 41 years of life, I have never seen a sign like the one I saw yesterday. The sign said “Incontinent or non-toilet trained people are not allowed in the pool.” Another sign close by has a list of rules that after reading you’re too tired to go swimming: No jumping in the pool, no splashing, no running, no rough play, keep the noise level down, blah blah.

I agree that all pools should have a list of rules. I guess these rules make it clear that no fun should be had by anyone who might have some tiny portion of kid left in them.

I wonder if I will be one of those people enjoying all those rules one day, and just when that day will come. I hope never.

Thanks to everyone for Tybee and all the great memories to add to my list.

What Happened to Tink?

Hummm….That is a very interesting question. Nobody seems to know what exactly did happen to Tink. The last time he was seen was the day after he went to the vet for his regular check-up. You might think this would be sad for Harris. On the contrary. Harris is loving his free reign of the office. This week he has enjoyed Attorney Tiffany Trussell’s big leather chair. She sits on the very edge so he has room to stretch out.

There is some talk about bringing in another cat named Sasha. I say it’s a bad idea since Harris is obviously a very happy cat. Then again, Harris could be even happier with a cat named Sasha.

Staff Meeting

I had my first staff meeting in almost 13 years today. It was informative and interesting. We are going to move within the next year. The attorneys are looking for land to build a bigger space. They are hiring now and want to expand to add several more attorneys. That means lots more filing, and plenty of work for me. Unfortunately, the 2 filing girls, which means me, were held back to be talked to about the work that is piling up and not acceptable. I recommended that they higher another part time filing person. So they said o.k. I am going to work 7 hour days instead of 5 hour days.

mo money, mo money, mo money.

P.S. Harris the cat will go when we move. I hope I can hang in there that long.

Taking a poll

Who wants to go back to Anna Maria the same Bat week, same Bat place as we did this past summer? Our Spring Break is March 20th-27th (well that’s sat. to sat.). We also have some time off April 9th and over Easter and then that Monday and Tuesday. What does everyone think?

I’ve heard that the house is being painted inside and out and some other updates are taking place, like new sheets.
