New Lower Gas Price

Today I filled up at Kroger. I was hoping to get through the whole month of November without filling up, but it wasn’t going to happen. Anyway, I was entering the mileage in my spreadsheet and I noticed on the receipt that they charged. $2.590/gallon. I think this may be the first time ever in the US that I haven’t been charged an extra 9/10ths of a cent for a gallon of gas. Last time I filled up with gas at the same Kroger, it was $2.479/gallon.

  1. I always enter the gallons and total price spent and let the spreadsheet calculate the price per gallon, in part because I didn’t want to deal with .009. Looking back, I only see two prices ending in .000, and one was 11/2 of this year! (I’ll have to go receipt digging.)

  2. Could be accidental on Kroger’s part. I read somewhere that a bill was introduced years ago in Georgia to get rid of the 9/10ths amount, but really that would just increase the cost by 1/10th. I think the whole 9/10ths thing made a lot more sense when gas was 35¢ a gallon.

  3. Getting rid of pennies is becoming more widespread. Someone was telling they were doing it in some other state and people were kind of mad because the store would always round up. It seems like if stores always rounded down, people would love it. And I don’t see why they would care if 1 and 2 rounded down while 3 and 4 rounded up. I’d love to get rid of pennies. But with a President from Illinois, I don’t see it happening. They take all things Lincoln very seriously.
